Local Movements Statewide Impacts: An Evening with Young Organizers

The Western Gala Afterparty 2018

Thanks to our sponsors and attendees, Local Movements, Statewide Impacts: An Evening with Young Organizers, an after party to the annual North Carolina Democratic Party Western Gala, was a tremendous success. The after party is the Buncombe County Young Democrats biggest annual fundraiser. This year, it was our goal to help unite young organizers with those who have more experience and help them form relationships. Activists from all walks of life had a great time mixing and mingling, learning from one another, and wrapping up a long day of political events. We heard inspiring speeches from young organizers from western North Carolina. They were just the boost we needed as we approach the weeks leading up to this important election. Audrey Meigs, a 12th grade student, spoke about her passion for women’s rights and how she became involved organizing March for Our Lives in Asheville. Phillip Cooper, a motivational speaker and career advisor left us with words of wisdom on the power of perseverance. Shannon Auer, an executive member of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, explained how important it is to live outside our bubbles and foster unity in our communities. The after party left us feeling excited and ready for elections to begin.
